South
Africa’s reputation plummeting
Internationally
Stes de Necker
For the first time, South Africa is
starting to slide down the rankings in global reputation as voted for by 48 000
people worldwide.
48 000 people throughout the G8
nations get to vote for who they think are the most reputable countries
worldwide. Not everyone qualifies for the vote, though as you have to be one of
the world’s 55 largest economies, of which South Africa is one.
Now, while this is hardly a fair
representation of the global community’s impression of a particular nation, it
does give you a pretty good idea of what our wealthier peers think of us.
The report, published annually by the
Reputation institute, uses online surveys to determine the reputational
power of a specific country by looking at the following three factors:
Direct experiences and perception
Third party data from the Global Peace
Index
Data from the Corruption Perception Index
While Canada takes the top spot as the
world’s most reputable country, South Africa has slipped from number 32 last
year to number 40 this year, make us one of the countries with the biggest
drops in global reputation alongside Russia and Qatar.
